Come To Tuscany
34 Society members, friends and relatives all travelled by air to Italy to go adventuring in Tuscany – and adventures were had by all in Florence, Fiesole, Siena, San Gimignano and Pisa. The start and end of each day’s activities was in Montecatini Terme, where everyone was well looked after at the Hotel Puccini.
Each day was expertly guided by our tour manager, Ludo, and we travelled in a private, executive coach. The first place visited was Florence, the City of Flowers, taking in sights such as the Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo, Sante Croce Church and the Boboli Gardens to name just a few. Although there was a guided tour in the morning there was also plenty of free time and people split into groups and explored further.
Our next destination was Fiesole, a little town on a hill above Florence, where Saville set his first Marston Baines novel and introduced us to Simon. The morning was spent in this lovely little place and then it was back down the hill, enjoying the tremendous views on the way, for more free time in Florence.
On our last full day we explored Siena and San Gimignano, both fascinating places and well worth seeing. Before catching the flights home there was also time to enjoy the delights of Pisa. A wonderful weekend which will be talked about and remembered for many years to come.
