Church Stretton Annual Gathering
More than one hundred people attended the Society's Annual Gathering in April, the first to be held in Shropshire since 2004. After a bit of snow on the Friday morning just before the event began, the weather turned for the better.
Saturday morning saw a visit to Clun for all the attendees. In a slightly different format to previous Gatherings, there was an optional walk over the Longmynd on the Saturday afternoon. About sixty members took part in this, with the remaining attendees going on a coach tour to various Malcolm Saville-related locations in the area. Afterwards, there was a presentation by Andy Prada about the making of the Society's DVD of the films 'Trouble At Townsend' and 'Treasure At The Mill'.
On Saturday evening, members enjoyed a 'romantic' annual dinner when the Longmynd Hotel had a power cut and we had to eat by candlelight!
The AGM occupied Sunday morning, as is customary, and with remarkably little discussion it was agreed that we should look into holding next years gathering in Somerset. This is not the setting for any of the Malcolm Saville stories but he did write Come to Somerset which contains some interesting descriptions of the area.
Following coffee and biscuits and lots more conversations the gathering dispersed until the next time....
