Cycling with the Malcolm Saville Society - a new venture!

Check out the EVENTS page to see an opportunity to cycle around some of Malcolm Saville’s Shropshire locations.
A cycle ride, following the route taken by Tom and Jenny in The Neglected Mountain, proved to be a very successful element of our 2022 weekend event.
Now, in 2024 we are planning another cycling event, with two single day loop rides, on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 September. This will mostly be via the many quiet lanes of south Shropshire, probably visiting Ludlow, Leintwardine, Clun and Bishop’s Castle - although not all on the same day! Each day will start and finish at the main car park in Craven Arms.
Ingles Farm Holiday Cottages ('Betty's Dairy' and 'Alf's Bull Pen') aren't far away and it's a great idea to check out their availability, as an option for accommodation and secure bike storage over the weekend.
We aim to cover around 30 miles each day, at a modest pace, taking in the sights and sounds, including some of the ‘Quietest places under the Sun’.
Not only the Lone Piners, but also several other young people in Malcolm Saville's stories, enjoyed cycling - and we hope this new venture will attract many of his readers to join us.
Further details and a Booking Form for this event are now available, see the Events page.
There is also a possibility of e-bike hire for the 2 days: attendees will need to book this themselves direct with the hire company (we will provide details in due course). However, if sufficient members are able to commit to this possible option the Society may be able to coordinated the bulk delivery to and collection from Craven Arms each day, and storage/charging overnight. Again further details are available via the Events page. If e-bike hire is of interest please respond as soon as possible and no later than Friday 28th March 2025, so we can gauge viability of this potential option.
