A Hertfordshire Weekend

A Hertfordshire Weekend

Join us for a weekend exploring Hertfordshire!

Malcolm Saville lived in this county for several years, sometime in Harpenden and latterly at Westend Farm, Wheathampstead.  The area was the inspiration for Jane’s Country Year  and Trouble at Townsend.  He also wrote his early Lone Pine and Jillies books whilst living at Westend Farm. The Society organised events in Hertfordshire back in 2002 and 2006.

Our programme of activities will include a walk around Harpenden to see two of Saville’s homes; a 7-8 mile walk following part of the disused Nickey Line (mentioned in Spring Comes to Nettleford); and a visit to Westend Farm, Cross Farm, Nomansland Common and Wheathampstead. Other alternative attractions include the nearby St Albans Cathedral, Verulamium Roman Museum, and Shaw’s Corner, home of George Bernard Shaw.

If you are interested in attending this event, please email events@witchend.com for further information and a booking form. The closing date for registration is 11 April 2025 (or sooner, if the maximum number of attendees has been reached).
